Abstract This paper presents numerical simulations on the behavior of thin‐walled steel tubular bridge piers box sections under cyclic lateral loading in presence constant axial compression loads, using three‐dimensional finite element analysis adopted commercial computer software ABAQUS. The and experimental results are compared to show how material models, such as elastic perfectly plastic (EPP), kinematic hardening (KH), isotropic (ISO) models effective reliable for capacity prediction evaluation. effects hysteresis have been evaluated by analyzing curve, envelope stiffness, strength degradation characteristics, considering interaction local buckling flexural buckling. In contrast ISO EPP compare reasonably well with test KH model.
